O-YES PROJECT LAUNCHING
28 Jul 2004

SAMSUNG Digitall Hope winning program makes headway O-Yes program of the Federation of Family Planning Associations, Malaysia launched at SMJK Katholik Kuala Lumpur, 12 July 2004 – Samsung DigitAll Hope 2003 winning community development program “O-Yes” mounted by the Family Planning Associations, Malaysia was today officially launched at the SMJK Katholik in Petaling Jaya. “We are proud to see the O-Yes program come to fruition. The youth represents a significant portion of Malaysia’s population and is seen as the key driver to future social and economic development. Samsung believes in supporting youth programs that increase the innovative use of technology so that more will be able to benefit and communities can prosper,” said Douglas Boler, Senior Manager, Corporate & Branding, Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd. The O-Yes program seeks to inspire its beneficiaries, at this point students from Form 4, Form 5 and Form 6, to consider Entrepreneurship as a possible career path. Through an innovative ICT-driven training program for youth entrepreneurship development, the program will equip the participants with skills that will help them become successful entrepreneurs. The educational program has a blended approach that combines a self-paced e-Learning courseware, an on-line instructor-led classroom, and the O-Yes instructor-led seminar. This program is called THINK-PAL. A further enhancement to the original program proposed is the entrepreneurship contest. The aim of which is to develop a business model on sexual and reproductive health (SRH)-related services and products. The O-Yes program is also to be launched very soon in Taylor’s College. This brings the implementation of the program to the level of college students who are soon to join the workforce. The program will, therefore, encourage students to consider Entrepreneurship as a financially viable and personally rewarding alternative career path. The O-Yes program is a follow through on a promise made at the inauguration of the program last year in which Samsung announced plans to contribute a total of RM4 million over 2003 and 2004 to different community organizations in South East Asia and Australia. DigitAll Hope is a program that supports community initiatives aimed at helping the young achieve their dreams through the use of technology – an effort aimed at bridging the development gap that still exists in society today. This program aims to improve individual lives thereby helping to develop communities as a whole. DigitAll hope is well about Samsung’s long-term commitment to the people in the Asia Pacific region and Samsung’s belief in the power of technology to improve lives. Samsung is once again opening its doors for nominations under the DigitAll Hope 2004 series. Charities, non-government organizations and educational institutions are invited to apply for monetary or product grants to help support on-going projects or the foundation of new projects surrounding improving lives through the us of technology, thus bridging the digital divide. Submissions will be evaluated first on a national level by a panel of local judges with relevant expertise. Then, short-listed entries will go on to a final round of judging by a regional committee. The committee will base their selection on a pre-established set of criterion among which includes the expected impact of the technology on the quality of lives, sustainability to provide long term benefits, feasibility and responsiveness to meeting target groups’ identified needs as well as creativity and innovation in the use of technology that will improve the living for all. The closing date for submissions will be on August 20, 2004. Winning recipients of Samsung DigitAll Hope 2004 will be announced in October this year.
