  Mud Ball Making Session

In conjunction with the ‘A Million Apologies to Mother Earth' bio-remedial campaign, SMJK Phor Tay had an EM Mud Ball Making Session this morning at the school canteen.

More than 15,000 mud balls were made by participating teachers, students and parents.

The mud balls will be thrown into polluted rivers in Penang on Aug 8 in a move to clean up the rivers and hence resuscitate aquatic life.

So, what are EM mud balls?

1.        EM mud balls are made from ordinary red clay soil, EM

Activated Solution (EMAS) and rice bran with a small quantity of molasses.

To make them, dry clay is mixed with 10% to 20% rice bran, while the EMAS is mixed with molasses at a ratio of 10:1.

2.        Both mixtures are then mixed together and thoroughly kneaded.  They are formed into mud balls the size of tennis balls.

3.        The mud balls are kept to dry.

4.        After drying for about a week, the mud balls are ready for use.
