2. Network Architecture
The design of computer networks depends on
local conditions and the placement of buildings. Schools
are, in general, difficult places to network as there is
often no ducting, buildings are well separated, concrete
is in abundance, students are tough on hardware and teachers
and students require high bandwidth and have multiple applications
open simultaneously. Ensure that you get impartial advice
on you network and ask for a structured cabling solution
from a reputable cabling company. Do not have the local
technician or electrician attempt this work. You will always
regret it.
The diagram below gives a guide to what you can expect to
be putting in place. Ask for, and expect to receive, certification
of the work done by your cabling company and do not pay
anything until all work is complete (there are no exceptions
to this) and the work is certified. Retain 15% for one month
after operation to ensure that small problems (sometimes
inevitable), are attended to promptly.
