8. Computer Specifications - Teachers

Computer specifications will vary but it is recommended that teachers are first supplied with laptop computers which can also be used in the classroom. The minimum requirement for these is a Pentium III 800MHz 128Mb RAM with 20Gb of hard drive space. Students will be predominantly using desktop PCs at present, although we expect a move towards laptops/notebooks for the reasons of portability and the ability to set up temporary "computer rooms" in the near future.

Notebook PCs are increasingly matching desktops for reliability and costs are dropping. Screen size is still an issue although viewing TFT screens is much less strain on the eyes than CRT screens. Students will also be using PDAs such as the Palm OS driven or Pocket PCs in the future as prices fall for this type of appliance. Make sure that your system allows for this and the access that the students will require. Scalability is very important!
