04 Jul 2015 School Admin - SMJK HENG EE (PENANG, GEORGETOWN)

RETIREMENT CEREMONY OF MADAM TUNG SIEW MEI

Madam Tung Siew Mei completed her primary education at Padang Tembak Primary School, Penang  and  continued her secondary education at St. George's Girls' School, Penang. After completing her secondary education, she worked for a few years as an administrative clerk at a factory  before she went to Gaya Teachers' Training College in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 1982 to undergo a three-year teacher  training programme, specializing in English Language and Geography. She taught for ten years before furthering her education by taking a 4-year distance-learning degree course, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) conducted by Universiti Putra Malaysia, majoring in English Language  and  Literature in English.

Madam Tung Siew Mei  was first posted to SMJK Shan Tao, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 1985.  She taught there for eight years before returning to Penang in 1992. She served for two years at her alma mater, St. George's Girls' School. In 1994, her family shifted to the mainland and  she applied for a transfer to Nibong Tebal and served in SMJK Methodist, Nibong Tebal for a year.

In 1995, Madam Tung Siew Mei got a transfer back to the island and was posted to Heng Ee High School where she served for twenty years until her retirement, effective from the 2nd of July 2015. She teaches English Language and Civics in the school.  Madam Tung Siew Mei  has served for a total of 30 years and 6 months in the teaching profession.

To Madam Tung Siew Mei, one of the most enjoyable aspects of teaching English

Language is to see students being motivated and make giant leaps in their language ability.  She

strongly believes that Perseverance is the Key to Success. Hence, by staying positive and using the

language whenever they can, students will certainly  be able to master the language eventually and

be confident enough to use the language freely.

Madam Tung, as you retire, you may be leaving the corridors of the school but you will

never be able to leave the corridor of your students' hearts. HAPPY RETIREMENT!
