RETIREMENT CEREMONY OF MADAM TUNG SIEW MEI
Madam Tung Siew Mei completed her primary education at Padang Tembak Primary School, Penang and continued her secondary education at St. George's Girls' School, Penang. After completing her secondary education, she worked for a few years as an administrative clerk at a factory before she went to Gaya Teachers' Training College in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 1982 to undergo a three-year teacher training programme, specializing in English Language and Geography. She taught for ten years before furthering her education by taking a 4-year distance-learning degree course, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) conducted by Universiti Putra Malaysia, majoring in English Language and Literature in English.
Madam Tung Siew Mei was first posted to SMJK Shan Tao, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 1985. She taught there for eight years before returning to Penang in 1992. She served for two years at her alma mater, St. George's Girls' School. In 1994, her family shifted to the mainland and she applied for a transfer to Nibong Tebal and served in SMJK Methodist, Nibong Tebal for a year.
In 1995, Madam Tung Siew Mei got a transfer back to the island and was posted to Heng Ee High School where she served for twenty years until her retirement, effective from the 2nd of July 2015. She teaches English Language and Civics in the school. Madam Tung Siew Mei has served for a total of 30 years and 6 months in the teaching profession.

Language is to see students being motivated and make giant leaps in their language ability. She
strongly believes that Perseverance is the Key to Success. Hence, by staying positive and using the
language whenever they can, students will certainly be able to master the language eventually and
be confident enough to use the language freely.
Madam Tung, as you retire, you may be leaving the corridors of the school but you will
never be able to leave the corridor of your students' hearts. HAPPY RETIREMENT!
